Fire Island Lighthouse, Fire Island, N.Y.
The Fire Island Light is a visible landmark on the Great South Bay, in southern Suffolk County, New York on the western end of Fire Island, a barrier island off the southern coast of Long Island. The Lighthouse is located with in Fire Island National Seashore and just to the east of Robert Moses State Park.
The current lighthouse is a 180 foot Stone tower that began operation in 1858 to replace the 74 foot tower originally built in 1826. The United States Coast Guard decommissioned the light in 1974.The lighthouse can be accessed by a short walk from Robert Moses State Park (Long Island) - Field 5. It is open to the public daily. Tower tours are available for a small fee.
I know all this to be true because we visited the lighthouse on Tuesday May 25th, just a couple of days ago.
I intend to send this postcard and another to names I get from Postcrossing.com

Awesome photo. I still have the red light house postcard you sent me last year on my wall. It's faded but it's still there :)
The photo is awesome indeed. Lighthouses are such romantic buildings (standing alone at the beach). It's a pity that so many have been closed now. Happy PFF!
Ah, I've walked to this Lighthouse many times, accessing it from Robert Moses State Park, as you described. Love the beach. Nude sunbathing allowed on a stretch nearby if I recall...
This is really a perfect shot. I love the lighting, compostion, and colors. Very scenic...would love to see it in person!
Wow--what a beautiful beautiful postcard...I truly am partial to lighthouses! We have quite a few lovely ones here on the Oregon coast.
Happy PFF!
That's a nice view.
I'm so glad I'm late reading the PFF posts. Because I got to see the real picture of this lighthouse in your next post!!! Both the postcard and the real life picture are amazing and beautiful!
Happy PFF!
Ditto, Clytie. What an incredible picture you've taken. So crisp and clear and and the composition is exquisite!
