My World Tuesday

These photos show details from a brownstone in the Hunters Point section of Queens, New York. Hunters Point is adjacent to Long Island City. This house is located on a block of brownstones that has been designated a city landmark. The tall wooden doors and windows, the fancy wrought iron, the "stoop," are all familiar to people who live in the 5 boroughs.

*One subway stop from Midtown, this working-class and industrial neighborhood is transforming into a premier residential enclave with housing prices to match.

The East River waterfront defines Hunters Point, through its factories, its brilliant views of the Manhattan skyline, and now its ads for future condos. The biggest banners of change are the Queens West towers and the Citibank tower.

I was sorry to hear that Tom and Imac (Stewart) are retiring from this meme that they helped to develop. I will miss Tom very much. I'm glad Imac will still be participating in posting his photographs.

Interesting that the craftsmen who once built and occupied this working-class neighborhood are being displaced by "premier" residents. I hope they learn to appreciate what sweat of the brow has wrought for them, besides the iron railings.

Very nice - they truly are landmarks - just think of all the movies they have appeared in! ;)

The lighting, angels & texture are all great. I've never seen this part of the country... fun to see it through your lens.

Lovely photos of a little bit of changing history. At least they are not being torn down to make way for some ugly office building.

Thank you for the wonderful tour. This 2nd week of meme really makes us appreciate the many places that we don't usually see or ever had a chance to visit like the one you showed me in this post. Hope you get to have time to check my world too. Another great job and more to come in the coming weeks.

I´m thinking about all the movies where people sit on those stairs. Nice light.

I love those brownstone buildings, they are one of the things I always think of when someone mentions New York (having never been there)

So much of NYC has become unaffordable - it's really a shame, because the city will lose the character that caused all to want to live or at least visit there.
