These photos show details from a brownstone in the Hunters Point section of Queens, New York. Hunters Point is adjacent to Long Island City. This house is located on a block of brownstones that has been designated a city landmark. The tall wooden doors and windows, the fancy wrought iron, the "stoop," are all familiar to people who live in the 5 boroughs.
*One subway stop from Midtown, this working-class and industrial neighborhood is transforming into a premier residential enclave with housing prices to match.
The East River waterfront defines Hunters Point, through its factories, its brilliant views of the Manhattan skyline, and now its ads for future condos. The biggest banners of change are the Queens West towers and the Citibank tower.

Interesting that the craftsmen who once built and occupied this working-class neighborhood are being displaced by "premier" residents. I hope they learn to appreciate what sweat of the brow has wrought for them, besides the iron railings.

I love those brownstone buildings, they are one of the things I always think of when someone mentions New York (having never been there)
So much of NYC has become unaffordable - it's really a shame, because the city will lose the character that caused all to want to live or at least visit there.
