My World Tuesday

Hempstead House, Sands Point Preserve, N.Y.
built originally by Howard Gould,

became the home of Daniel and Florence Guggenheim in 1917.

Inside the foyer of Hempstead House, one glimpse of the imposing vaulted ceiling stirs the imagination of a grand lifestyle that once existed at this Gold Coast estate. Even though the house is no longer furnished, its architecture provides a hint of an elegant time long gone.

The Gold Coast

The north shore of Long Island, New York, in a sixteen mile stretch from Great Neck to Huntington, was a favorite retreat for the rich and the famous. Many were wealthy industrialists of the Gilded Age who pioneered great industries. These captains of industry spent fortunes on their lavish lifestyles. Many worked in and around New York City and created large estates as their dilatory domiciles on the north shore of Queens County, now Nassau County, today commonly referred to as the "Gold Coast."

Well the Guggenheim's had a very nice home. I'm sure they had a lot of maids to help clean it too. Great post on the impressive home.

it does look imposing and at the same time, impressive. Can only imagine how it looks during its heyday. Nice shot of the building. Love the blue skies as its background.

What an imposing and beautiful looking building. I can't even begin to think what one would have to do in order to furnish it in the fashion it would deserve!
