This Way Thursday - WAY

Tink is the lovely hostess of This Way Thursday - Way.

I usually post signs for TWTW but today I'm posting The Kosciuszko Bridge which is a truss bridge that spans Newtown Creek between the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, connecting Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Penny Bridge, Queens. It is a part of Interstate 278, which is also locally known as the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The bridge opened in 1939, replacing the Penny Bridge from Meeker Avenue in Brooklyn to Review Avenue and Laurel Hill Boulevard, and is the only bridge over Newtown Creek that is not a drawbridge. It was named in honor of Tadeusz Kościuszko, a Polish volunteer who was a General in the American Revolutionary War.[1] Two of the bridge towers are surmounted with eagles, one is the Polish eagle, and the other the American eagle.

The view of the bridge is from Old Calvary Cemetery which I've been known to haunt every now and then. :)

I know it well! Which side of the debate are you on -

kuh-SHUSS-ko

or

kos-kee-OSS-cow

???

My dad always called it the latter, but the traffic guy on WPLJ always called it the former, so I never quite knew which way to go!

Thanks for playing!

Aha! At last I found your blog, I was trying to look for your TWTW post last week but unfortunately I got lost LOL! Anyways, bridges are one of the very significant infrastructure invented, it connects places from one another and makes us easier to visit different places those parted by bodies of water. I like the setting, an old cemetery...creepy.

I'm always interested in places and things with history. Makes it more real to live when there is something to learn.

My post for TWTW.
