This Way Thursday-WAY

This Way Thurs-Way

When I saw this sign outside a New York restaurant I thought, "Why in the world would a Manhattan restaurant advertise TOAST?  A Toast restaurant. That seemed silly. Well, I found out there are restaurants called TOAST

New York City’s premier “truckstop gourmet” restaurants invite you to drink and dine with us. What is “truckstop gourmet”?, it’s our take on quality hand prepared foods made with love and affection, combined with the portion, price and home-style feel of your local truckstop. For you dining pleasure we feature house cured salmon, house smoked pork, legendary burgers, overstuffed sandwiches and divine entrees, with daily specials to satisfy your every hunger. For your drinking pleasure we specialize in craft beer, handcrafted adult-size cocktails, and an exceptional wine list.

Since the founding of our Uptown location in 1999 we have provided a great place to meet and relax in a casual, friendly and intimate setting. Weekend Reflections

James of Newtown Area Photo has started this new meme called Weekend Reflections.

I took this photo a couple of weeks ago. It's a Bell Tower in a local Port Washington Cemetery.  I put my camera on the top of my moon roof on my car to steady it and took the shot.  I thought the reflection was very interesting.

Hey James, good luck!

Postcard Friendship Friday

Two stunning Baltimore, Maryland, bakery trade cards from the 1880s sporting a variety of finely rendered cranes!  Each reads:  "Compliments of James Beatty & Co." at the top.  Beatty was a baker of steam crackers and cakes.  Imagine how handsome these would look framed!  Excellent condition.

I have no information about who painted these lovely landscapes with cranes! These are quite expensive vintage postcards.

Visit Marie Reed at Cpaphil-Vintage Postcards for more participants.

P.S. I joined "Postcrossing" this week and sent out my first postcard!

My World Tuesday

Have you ever seen a sneaker hanging from the electrical wires overhead in your neighborhood? Or a woman's high-heeled shoe in the gutter on a Sunday morning?

Well, I bet you've never seen a little boy's shoe sitting on top of the waste can in your local shopping center? Have you?

When I passed the almost new brown shoe I looked at it again and went back to my car for my camera. Why do I every leave the camera behind?

This morning it wasn't there anymore. I really hope the Mom or Dad came back looking for the shoe and was delighted to find it perched there.

I think most people would leave it just where it was.

Postcard Friendship Friday

Marie over at Vintage Postcards - Cpaphil  hosts this wonderful meme!

Writing Desk

I purchased this postcard at the South Street Seaport Museum store a while back. It's printed by the John Derian Company of New York. The company was founded in 1989 and sells decoupage, ephemera (including cartes postales), furniture, rugs, and other unusual things.

I also own this postcard by the same company:

Lady Lawn Mower

Both of the cards above were printed in 2009.

My World Tuesday

Do you have zip cars where you live?
It's like having your own car in the city—but with free gas and insurance. Okay, it's better than having your own car.

My World Tuesday

From the roof of a Brooklyn brownstone.

In the foreground is the fire escape that begins on the roof . Notice there is no fencing to guard you from falling off the roof! Also the apartment buildings, tenements, brownstones of Brooklyn.

In the middle ground is what used to be the Brooklyn Navy Yard. That big building in the middle left will soon be condos.

In the far ground are the lower Manhattan slyscrapers.

Of course the Statue of Liberty at full zoom (10x),
so it's not so clear.

Postcard Friendship Friday

Marie at Vintage Postcards - cpaphil hosts Postcard Friendship Friday. I love this meme!

Alfons Mucha Art Postcard ~ From Flower Poster in Christie's Colour Library, London

This beautiful postcard is from a postcard book copyrighted 1993 by the Benedict Taschen Co. in Koln, Germany. It measures about 4-½” x 6-¼” and is in mint condition and unused.

The card is from a poster by Alfons Mucha (1869-1939), one of the first to achieve wide circulation and recognition using this art form. He became famous for his work on posters for the actress Sarah Bernhardt. The art-nouveau stylized woman of the type he created promoted biscuits, liqueur, cigarette papers, and bicycles.

This postcard book is now out of print.

The price of this postcard is $2.95.
