SOOC Sunday

59th Street Bridge (Queensboro Bridge)

Here's what Jan says about this meme:

Do you ever take a photo that you love; it comes out so well, straight from the camera, that you're not tempted to do a thing with it, once you've downloaded it. It's wonderful and you want to share it. I've decided to start a new meme - Straight Out Of the Camera Sunday. I'll host it here, each Sunday. So put your thinking cap on, scroll through your files and decide what to post. The subject is open, no weekly theme, just have fun. On Sunday morning, actually at 12:00 PM PST, on Saturday, I post my SOOC Sunday, and Mr. Linky.

What are the rules? On any Sunday you can post any photo you like (it must be one of your own) that hasn’t been tweaked or altered in any way (cropping is OK). In other words Straight Out Of the Camera.

Go visit other participants at Murrieta365.

Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary – St. Stephen
(Roman Catholic)

Summit Street at Hicks Street
Brooklyn, N.Y. 11231

Organ Specifications:
► III/31 Geo. Kilgen & Son, Op. 7560 (1952); alt.
• Geo. Kilgen & Son, Op. 4793 (1931) – burned with church in 1951
► III/37 Hilborne L. Roosevelt, Op. 17 (1875)

The Roman Catholic Church of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary – St. Stephen was formed in 1941 by the merger of two churches.

St. Stephen's Parish was established in 1866 to serve the Carroll Gardens area of Brooklyn. For the first several years, masses took place in a modest church on Carroll Street. As the parish membership increased, plans were made by Father O'Reilly, the pastor, to build a larger church. The cornerstone for the present church was laid by Bishop Loughlin in July, 1873, and the new church was opened with "dignity and ceremonial pomp" on October 31, 1875. Patrick C. Keely, the Brooklyn architect who was noted for his many churches, designed the neo-Gothic church.
The Church of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary, an Italian parish located at Degraw and Hicks, was established in 1885, and was condemned in 1941 by Robert Moses to make way for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Ironically, the same expressway runs in a trench alongside the present church.

My shots are of particular architectural details because the entire church is wrapped in scaffolding while it's being renovated. The photo just above was taken from the church website.

So that's My World for this Tuesday.

This neo-classical sculpture stands in the front yard of a home that I noticed for the first time today. I was looking for Crocheron Park which is located in Bayside and borders the Cross Island Parkway. The sculpture seemed out of place but it certainly was a photo op for me.

After I checked the location of the Park on the internet I realized I just kept missing the Park which is located on 35th Ave very near where I took this photo. I will be going back to the Park and posting pictures soon.

My grand-nephew posed for this photo by sticking his face right up into the camera. I thought I would Spherize his face using Adobe Photoshop 7. I laughed when I saw the result. But he still looks cute doesn't he?

Go over to Creative Photography to see other participants. A new Creative Photography starts tomorrow.

Late afternoon looking out to sea from a balcony in Hollywood, FL. I loved the glow from the sun just behind the condo complex on the right. The glow of the sun made the lower part of the photo darker than I would like it but this is exactly how it came out of my camera.

Go over to Jan's Murrieta 365 to visit other participants in SOOC Sunday.

I was in the Bronx this morning. Off Gun Hill Road for an dental appointment. The top photo shows the row houses a block down from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine Dental Department at Montefiore University Hospital.

The other 2 photos are of the parking facility I use. I happened to look up before I went in the building and noticed the back end of cars hanging over the edge of the top floor just the way you see them in the photos. I could see that there were blocks of concrete that stopped the back wheels from going over the edge, but, gee, there is NO WAY I could park my car like that!

Could you?

Although I live in Queens, the Bronx is just over the Whitestone Bridge, a 5-minute drive for me. Montefiore Hospital is about 20 minutes away.

Cemeteries are there to keep the dead in our midst, to expiate and get over our mourning. However, the artist notes that cemeteries are going through a regrettable metamorphosis.
Mankind’s social and sentimental history was legible on epitaphs and sculptures ; it is being erased little by little. The artist, therefore, is hoping his creations will help to fight the dereliction and abandonment of the necropolitan space. He endeavours, as he would (as indeed he will do) for his own monument, to fulfil (sic) the expectations of the families in quest of symbolism, personalization and emotion, in order to restore the mysterious and inexpressible holiness of our last resting place that helps to make Death less dreadfull (sic). ~Andre Cabot

The urn means immortality; an urn with a wreath means mourning.

This is a shot right out my side door when it was snowing all day last week. You can see some red of the stop sign on the corner and the red tail lights of the car parked on the next street. On the right you can see a spot of blurriness made by the snowflakes hitting my camera lens.

Love is as much of an object as an obsession, everybody wants it, everybody seeks it, but few ever achieve it, those who do will cherish it, be lost in it, and among all, never... never forget it.

These are shots from in and around my neighborhood. The top picture is a photo of an architectural detail (Tudor style) of the building that houses our pharmacy.

The next two shots are photos of the seagulls that grace our supermarket and parking lot all the time. They aren't the clearest shots because my little point-and-shoot camera has only a 10 zoom lens. I made the pictures small because they look clearer when they are smaller.

Go visit That's My World for a list of other participants
